Frequently Asked Questions:
F.Q.A.'s for Hair Removal
Q - What area can be treated?
A - The Ultra VPL™ is very effective at removing hair from the all over the face and neck, and from the underarms, legs, bikini line, chest, arms and back. Long lasting results are achievable for both men and women with Ultra VPL™
Q - What hair can be treated using the Ultra VPL™?
A - Only hairs in the active growth stage can be treated which is why a course of treatments will achieve the best results. Your clinician will explain the different stages of hair growth during your consultation. Blonde and red coloured hairs cannot be treated. Your clinician will advise you on the best course of treatment.
Q - What skin colour can be treated using the Ultra VPL™?
A - It is extremely difficult to assess a clients skin colour without visually seeing it. We can treat most skin colour's except dark Afro-Carribean skin tones which we would classify as Fitzpatrick Skin Type V
Q - Why can't Afro-Carribean skin be treated ?
A - Firstly we are only covered by our Insurers to treat Fitzpatrick Skin Types I - IV. This is because the light from the system may causes heat to be trapped in the melanin and may cause burning.
Q - Are there any side-effects?
A - Due to the personalised treatment settings determined by your clinician during consultation, you should not experience any side-effects. A slight reddening of the skin can occur immediately after your treatment, this is an indication of an effective treatment and will fade very quickly.
Q - How many treatments may be required?
A - In most cases noticeable results are achieved after just four or five treatments, however your clinician will advise you on the best course of treatments for you during your consultation. The number of treatments you require will be determined by the thickness and colour of your hair, the area to be treated and the hair growth cycle. All hair growth cycles are slightly different and some women, at a mature stage in their life, will sometimes find that some small hairs will appear gradually over time due to increased hormonal activity.
Q - What should I do after treatment?
A - Your therapist will apply a soothing gel or ice pack where necessary after treatment as your skin may be slightly warm and pink. In the days following treatment hairs will still be in place, however, they will slowly be released from the follicle. There is no need to pull or pluck the hairs, they will fall out naturally over a period of approx 10 days after receiving your treatment.
At Cristianos we recommend you use a total sun block following treatment, and avoid tanning beds or sunbathing for at least two weeks. Your clinician will answer any questions you may have after you have been treated and will also advise you on a suitable skin care programme to enhance your skin tone and texture.
Q - Can this system be used with any other therapies?
A - Yes, clients often have other treatments around the same time as having an Ultra VPL™ treatment. Always advise your clinician during your consultation about any other treatments you have recently received or are planning to have.
Q - How old do I have to be for treatment?
A - Cristianos is registered to provide treatment for clients aged 16 and over. All users of laser and intense pulsed light equipment must register and be inspected by the Care Quality Commission. This registration usually covers the treatment of adults over the age of 18 years. In order to provide treatment for clients aged below this age Cristianos was required to apply for specific registration to treat clients aged 16 and above. The Commission are duty bound to protect the safety of children and young people and look closely at the policies and processes Cristianos have in place to ensure that young people are provided with treatment in a supportive and protective environment. Where a young person is considering treatment at Cristianos they must be referred by their GP and be accompanied by an adult.
