Introduction:
Registration under the Care Standards Act 2000 is a prerequisite for all operators of laser and intense pulsed light systems. The detail contained within the legislation is by necessity, comprehensive and extensive. The registration process can be daunting even to the most committed therapist or manager. Indeed 85% of potential purchasers of light based equipment sited failure of manufacturers to provide assistance with Healthcare Commission registration as the main reason for not purchasing a system (1).

The legislation is with us to stay and if light-based technology is to become part of every beauty salon’s repertoire then we must assist potential purchasers not only to negotiate the registration process but equip them with the underpinning knowledge and skills to discharge their duties under the Care Standards Act 2000. If we are to build client loyalty and encourage repeat business then we must go the extra mile by providing ongoing support. (1) Olympia 2004

The Solution:
Help is at hand. Cristianos has, through its extensive experience, developed a comprehensive programme geared to securing sales by providing guidance and support through every step of the process, from awareness workshops to assist sales teams to understand the registration process and convey confidence to prospective purchasers, through to the assistance to purchasers to help them complete application forms and prepare for the “fit person interview”. Its comprehensive 1-day workshop covers such issues as core of knowledge, informed consent, clinical governance, compilation of policies, procedures and protocols and on-going support for continued professional development based upon its accredited programme.

Accreditation:
The National Open College Network has accredited the entire “Step by Step” portfolio of courses at national level three and all are delivered by experienced qualified therapist, managers and specialist tutors. The programme has been designed in units of competence so as to provide the opportunity to tailor the course content to the needs of the participants.

Cristianos Laser Training Limited has an enviable reputation for the demonstration of its compliance with the requirements of the Care Standards Act 2000. Its successful experience of registration and re-registration, ‘’first time, every time’’ has provided invaluable experience of the process. It has refined its approach to registration and now wishes to share that experience and good practice for the benefit of other caring professionals.

Who will benefit?
If you are a clinician wishing to maintain a programme of continuous professional development or even newly qualified and wishing to specialise; in either case you have a keen interest in using laser or IPL systems for the benefit of your clients and keen to enhance your ethical and professional standing.

The course will be of equal interest to owners and managers of clinics/salons that have a similar commitment to embrace the latest treatment technology and are keen to help ensure that you and your employees better understand the benefits of the requirements of the Care Standards Act 2000, for clients and clinic alike.

You may already own, manage or be employed at a professional clinic/salon.

You may aspire to management or be about to embark upon this exciting area of client support and treatment and simply wish to take advantage of this wealth of professional guidance in advance of the rigours of registration and inspection.

How will learning be supported?

Registration under the Care Standards Act 2000 is a prerequisite for all operators of laser and IPL systems. The detail contained within the legislation is, by necessity, comprehensive and extensive. This can be daunting even to the most experienced and committed therapist or manager.

Cristianos Laser Training Limited has produced a simplified guide to the requirements of the legislation, its processes and procedures. We have reduced the use of jargon so as to make the requirements much easier to understand. It is written by a highly qualified therapist with, probably, the widest understanding and experience of the use of lasers in the beauty therapy field and she uses the inclusive language common to therapists and clinic/salon managers.

This guidance manual ‘’Step by Step’’ will be used to guide participants through the workshop. It itemises the essential requirements contained in this training programme and provides working examples of the registration process. These ‘policies, protocols and procedures’, as they are termed, provide practical and effective systems that help ensure the safety of you and your clients.

The guidance manual will be yours to retain and use at the successful completion of the workshop. It will be a useful reference text to guide you through the necessary registration and inspection/re-inspection process. It will be reviewed regularly to accommodate changes in legislation and procedure.

Each participant will receive a workbook that they can use to guide them through the training course and in which they will be able to note additional information for future reference.

The ‘training’ continues after the completion of the workshop. You will have acquired much useful information and guidance; all that is probably necessary for successful negotiation of the registration process. Such is our commitment to you, our clients, that we remain available to provide ongoing support.
