Unwanted facial and body hair is without doubt one of the major issues for women, the advent of laser hair removal some 10 years ago seemed to promise a solution. Opinion was divided on the long-term results, only time would tell. So what have ten years of treatments revealed. Cristianos Laser Clinic was one of the first clinics specialising in laser treatment and one that has been at the forefront of providing ethical treatment. Established in 1998 by Chris Hart the company now has four outlets, Altrincham, London, Leeds and Bury. Chris recalls her motivation for setting up the business “Having had a burning desire to cure the world of facial hair and having worked as an electrologist I considered the technology of laser offered clients a much safer, speedier and more comfortable solution. The amount and nature of dark coarse facial hair is perfect for laser treatment. Providing a non judgmental and welcoming atmosphere came as second nature to me. I recall saying we would be around for the long haul and clients could be assured we were committed to providing effective treatment.”

Cristianos is one of the few clinics that will readily discuss their clinical results, indeed Cristianos have been complimented by the Healthcare Commission for their high standard of quality assurance and information provision. Over the ten years since conception Cristianos have treated hundreds of clients and have used that experience to formulate best practice guidelines, which are used throughout their clinics. They believe that different client groups have different needs in respect of treatment for example the treatment regime would differ for a post menopausal genetic female and a client who wanted hair removed for cosmetic reasons. One size fits all doesn't’t really work as so many factors affect the success of treatment and therefore it is important to have experience of the issues affecting the individual client.

Many people would consider the issue of long term effectiveness the most important question. Keeping track of clients in order to assess long term results can be difficult however such is the nature of Cristianos, clients have a tendency to stay in touch making it a simple to answer the question of longevity of the results. Chris comments “I consider it a privilege to have been able to make such a difference to client’s lives and to have seen them grow and develop as individuals. Still seeing clients hair free ten years on is a very rewarding experience both for the client and ourselves”

Cristianos have used the Chromos 694 Ruby Laser since 1997; this laser was developed in the medical field to help plastic surgeons where donor tissue for reconstructive surgery was hirsute. This equipment is only suitable for white skin and dark hair. Cristianos introduced the Energist Ultra, which is a variable pulsed light system which is suitable for the treatment of darker skin tones, this system also has the ability to target finer hair and makes the treatment of larger areas such as chests, backs and legs much more cost effective. Using both systems gives us much more flexibility and makes it possible to provide a wider range of services including skin rejuvenation, thread veins, age spots, rosacea, acne, acne scarring.
