Treatment Details: When I was about 17 I started noticing hair appearing on my face which embarrassed me. After coping with it for a couple of years I went to my GP, who even being female and could see my problem, showed little sympathy and told me it was purely a cosmetic problem and I shouldn’t worry about it. Being resigned to this I went to university and put up with it becoming increasingly worse and harder to deal with. In my mind I just had to live with it. At 26 I got married and wanted to start a family but after 2 years of not getting pregnant I returned to the GP who then referred me to the hospital for tests. The tests showed I had PCOS. By this time I was having to shave twice a day to try to avoid other people noticing. I wore heavy make up and would never accept invitations to stay away from home or be away from the house for long periods of time. My facial hair really constricted my life. The consultant’s reaction was again that it was cosmetic – “you can just keep on shaving” was his answer when I questioned whether there was any treatment for it. Being a teacher in a high school invited innocent questions from some pupils like “Miss, why have you got a beard?” The only answer I could give, through my tears and embarrassment was the truth – which was really hard to do but I felt they had a right to hear an honest answer. Eventually, when I was about 30 and my marriage had broken up due in the main to my infertility and my not coping well with the ‘hairy’ situation I decided enough was enough. It was time to do something about it or to carry on with living miserably. Since the first appointment I have returned regularly to the clinic, I now go to Bury for hair removal maintenance. I can clearly remember the first time I had a facial – it was an amazing feeling to let someone touch my face without flinching or being self conscious, but also to be able to tell the beauty therapist my story and educate her about PCOS and laser hair removal. I would have no hesitation in recommending Cristianos to any woman who suffers from excess hair due to PCOS . The treatment is quick and virtually pain free, the staff are professional, friendly and really put you at ease, and the freedom and relief you get from not having to deal with this problem on a daily basis is unbelievable. If I had realised when I was 17 that my facial hair problem could be treated so easily I would have been knocking on Cristianos s door asking for help! I cannot thank the team enough for helping me as they have done. TESTIMONIAL – A. C Nov 2008
