I was very nervous on my first visit to Cristianos. I accompanying my husband who was 'dressed', and I was finding it very difficult to cope. Due to not being able to face leaving home with him like this at that time, there was the added problem of him having to change in a lay-by on the way, and then the long journey to Altrincham. However, I was soon re-assured by the extremely friendly welcome and the relaxed, sympathetic atmosphere at the clinic, where our difficulties were fully understood. It all turned out to be extremely good therapy for me, being able to talk freely with Chris and Sue, who both fully appreciated all my problems in having to accept that I was to 'lose a husband', after 30 years of marriage, and live with my 'sister-in-Iaw', ( we decided that this was the easiest way of being accepted by outsiders and still be 'family' and able to talk quite truthfully of past events with the 1.minimum of deception. I was able realise that that many people were in the same situation and talk freely with anyone else who was in the clinic. This was very helpful to us both, meeting people at different stages of the change, one of whom gave us his telephone number so that I could talk to his wife who was in the same situation. All in all, I would say that any partners, close relations or friends etc. should accompany anyone going for treatment, to be comforted and re-assured. It definitely turned into therapy sessions for me. I will never forget the support, kindness and re-assurance I was given at the clinic. We were not treated as customers with a 'next please' attitude, but as friends they were trying to help. There was no problem with the shedding of tears and being re-assured. Thank goodness there are people who are willing to do their utmost to help us with our particular problems, both physically and mentally and measure their success with seeing the gradual change and growth in those they are treating. Cristianos is not just a hair removal clinic, but an important stage for anyone who is going through the process of changing.
