Comments:

“I have been going to Cristianos in Altrincham since March 2003. When I started out on the road to transitioning, I realised what an important part of things hair removal was going to be . A friend of mine was attending the London clinic and she recommended them. Ok, they seemed expensive but the way I see it, you get what you pay for and I wanted the best. Cristianos had a good reputation and Chris Hart was seen as an expert in the field of laser treatment. I don’t think people realise that, for Transsexuals, Hair removal is not just a cosmetic procedure as it for genetic women. It is an important part of the medical treatment alongside hormones and surgery, for that fact it should be carried out by experienced professionals, not at a beauty salon! That’s why I started as soon as I could, well ahead of my transition. I sometimes hear people saying “I went to such and such a place and I was finished after 6 sessions”; That’s all very well if you want it all to grow back! Cristianos will tell it like it is and, unfortunately, I think some people don’t like that, they want a “quick fix” but it doesn’t work like that. I’ve had about 20 sessions now and I’ve got virtually no dark hair left, soon I’ll start electrolysis to clear the remaining hairs, plus I’m having laser on my chest and stomach. I think the “aggressive and persistent” approach is the only way to do it; You should to be prepared for a “long haul” but believe me, it is worth it in the end when you can look in the mirror and find it hard to believe that you used to be able to grow a beard! Pain!.. Ok it does hurt a bit to start with (the upper lip will make your eyes water!) and it will feel like bad sunburn afterwards and may be a bit red for a couple of days but that diminishes with each session (I almost fell asleep last time) You can put make-up on straight afterwards, so I can go in and leave looking gorgeous(!) even if I look pretty awful in-between after Kerry has done her stuff on me. It really is a huge confidence boost when you don’t have to worry about hair on your face and how many hours its going to be before its visible! I’m glad that’s just distant (and horrible) memory now“ Cathryn December 2004
