Treatment Details: Facial hair removal J. Leyland has pale skin and brown hair.
Comments: My name is Josephine, I am now 42-years old and I am a pre-operative transsexual. A four years ago intended to start my transition, but with a face full of very dark and dense hair I knew transition would be problematic. I tried almost every concealer on my fair/medium skin nothing covered the disgusting dark hair on my face. Then a friend recommended laser treatment or electrolysis. After a bit of research into how the treatments work I didn’t find sticking needles into my face appealing, despite how fine they are, no thanks. I had heard from several people their opinions and experience’s from laser. They ranged from very expensive to don’t work. Yet all said that the pain of the treatment itself ranged from mild discomfort to someone flicking an elastic band on their face pain. However they all said that the pain dissipated in minutes of treatment with mild swelling that went down in 24hrs. I knew I couldn’t go backwards because my gender dysphoria wouldn’t allow it, at the same time I couldn’t go forward with a face full of dark hair, no matter how much I shaved it or used creams. I talked about it to a friend who had laser a couple of years before I met her, her face was clear but for the odd grey or white. She told me about Cristianos laser clinic at Altrincham, the place that she had her hair removal. It was impressive no damage to skin that is sometimes a result of electrolysis or pigmentation damage as in the case of some epilate treatments I had heard of gave. My friend said the clinic she attended in just outside of Manchester, not a problem for me in the car, then searched out the phone number and web address. The appointment I expected was in a few weeks, quicker than I excepted, the initial consultation went well apart from I had been out in the sun weeks before. For two weeks I facial scrubbed to rid of as much suntan, the paler the skin the less dissipation and better result. I could live with pale skin if it meant a hairless face. My first experience of a full-face laser treatment was just that, an experience. Nothing could have prepared me for it. My face was red from the treatment and bumpy, I had forgot that I suffered from very sensitive skin, a reason for why I have eczema. After two days of facial central heating redness had gone and all but a few bumps remained which was gone by day four. Four weeks later I was back for the second treatment, four weeks after that a third and so on. By month ten a huge dent had been made in the dark hair on my face. I could wear concealor and it concealed, over the months I was wearing less concealer and just foundation and powder. The redness and bumps were lessening too and recovery time was quicker. After two years of treatment I was no longer attending every four weeks but every two or three months to rid the stragglers, I no longer needed to wear foundation at anytime day or night, I gave the concealors away. For the past year or so on its just been appointments, often every four months, for a few dozen hairs now and again which is negligible in comparison with how many I started with and what they affect the face. My skin is undamaged; all but hair free save the white and greys with occasional red hairs. My credit card took a whacking paying for it but I found it was less expensive that other places I researched. My overall view was the staff are helpful and friendly, they take their time at a pace suitable to the individual both in and out of the treatment room. The treatment itself is what they say, permanent, however there is some pain involved that you never get used to. The upside is the less hair left the less pain. Although people ask would I do it again, I don’t need to, but if I was started from scratch or someone else would, www.cristianos.co.uk is where I would be going. That is where I would recommend from my own experience. Josephine August 2006 |
