As a cross-dresser determined to 'pass' convincingly, and after many many years of developing the art and studying the nuances of the role, my most significant remaining obstacle was facial hair. Whilst fortunate in having very little hair elsewhere (except on my head), I did have strong and dark beard growth, especially on the top lip. This was very difficult to cover up, although I had found a good make-up regime. Inevitably the make-up was quite thick, and looked it. Also, I could not go more than about eight hours before I had to go through the whole process of re- applying it. I had considered electrolysis -but not for very long -and more recently laser but without taking any action. Then I met Chris Hart when she was displaying her clinic at a small exhibition in November 1998. I had quite a thorough discussion with her, and subsequently visited the clinic for assessment. The result was that we came to agreement and I entered upon a seven month course of monthly treatment of the lip, chin and cheeks to just under the jaw line. 'Did have' is the operative term for my beard growth in that area. Now, in October 1999, there are a few white or grey hairs remaining (which the laser will not remove), but the strong dark ones have gone. My cross-dressing life is transformed. Now I need only minimal make-up, and it clearly is only minimal. The value in 'passing' terms is immense. What tipped the balance and decided me to 'take the plunge' was total conviction that Chris knew her subject and was caring and thorough. That has been proven to me through the months of treatment from the first day when I arrived and felt exposed trying to gain access. Chris's assistant Sue handled the situation superbly, and they both have always been everything one could wish for in sensitivity and confidentiality. I very soon felt completely relaxed about the whole experience. Chris has done a wonderful job with kindness, thoroughness and total professionalism.
