I guess I was like a lot of people just before my first appointment at the Cristianos Laser Clinic:- a bit embarrassed about my facial hair problem - slightly scared about what the treatment would be like -a little worried that the staff would be snooty and treat me like a weirdo -rather concerned at confidentiality and that it might all turn out to be an expensive rip-off with no positive benefits. Chris and Sue at Altrincham soon put me right on all those things. How short-lived those thoughts were, and so quickly dismissed as soon as I had arrived. With the calm reassurance and efficiency of Sue and the bubbly enthusiasm, professionalism and experience of Chris, together with a genuine interest in me as a person, I was soon totally relaxed and re-assured. From those first feelings, it just got better and better. For a start, a totally free initial test, clear and detailed information about what she could and couldn't do, careful consideration of the length a course of treatment would take and full explanation of the modest costs involved was pretty good. Then efficient and considerate treatment, backed up with full record keeping was even better. And the treatment actually works! If you don't believe this and can't remember how you used to look, Chris can remind you from her photographic records, taken at each visit. This is all factual stuff, but there is so much more. The conversations and discussions, meetings with others, (often with wives), with a similar problem, laughter, personal stories and non-personal gossip, concern expressed and given, even a bit of counselling, but above all a personal involvement, all make a visit to the clinic not just treatment for a specific problem but more a combination of an enjoyable social occasion with friends and therapy. There is one problem though -the treatment does work. Eventually, like me, you find the appointments are not needed and a gap appears in your life. I'm going to miss my visits to Altrincham! OK, so I'm a Cristianos groupie, but they really are very nice people who want to help you. Shelagh August 2001
