Treatment Details: Full-face Val has pale skin and 70% of facial dark coarse hair. Comments: My name is Val I am a male to female transsexual. Since my treatments which commenced in 2007 at Cristianos Laser Clinic it has changed my life for the better. That may seem like an over the top statement, but it's true. So did they offer me free treatments for this testimonial you ask. The answer is NO. Actually my treatments are now finished after 14 sessions, so I don't gain anything by singing any praises for the clinic. I just think that other people like myself should be aware of what an essential service this is. The NHS Leeds Gender Identity Clinic initially directed me to the Cristianos Clinic in Leeds, when I expressed an interest in the removal of my male facial hair. They seemed to be sure that this was the place to go and they were right. Seemingly the Cristianos Clinic is the most sympathetic towards the transgender community. I was a little unsure about ringing for an appointment as I was worried about the expense, as I had heard that these sort of treatments often cost huge amounts of money, I was wrong. I was very surprised at how inexpensive each session cost me. After my tenth session my costs were even reduced. Basically, even I could easily afford the full treatment on my low income. I'd heard that it was very painful. It isn't, it feels like being flicked on the face with an elastic band, more a little shock than anything. You do get used to it rather quickly! Would it really work? Well, all I know is that mine has certainly worked. My face is now clear of the dark hair that gave me my detested "five O'clock shadow" I still have some white hair, about 40 to 30%, but it is invisible. I often don't shave for three days because it just can't be seen. As most of the dark hairs have gone, shaving is so easy it is just like gliding through butter! I used to shave very close until my skin was sore then wear a heavy thick foundation called Dermablend, which was developed for people with birthmarks. If you go out like that particularly during the day, then you draw attention to yourself. "Why is she wearing so much make up? Oh! It's a fella!" Yes, that horror actually has happened to me but not anymore. I pass all the time now. I'm always referred to as "Madam" or "Love" even without any make-up at all. The outside world now accepts me as female. I put this down to the eradication of all the dark hair on my face rather than the effects of the hormones, which I take daily. If people look at you and there is no sign of stubble or any facial hair at all. Then they deem that you must be a woman, it's as simple as that. I intend to have the remaining white hairs removed at Cristianos by their electrolysis method. The main thing is that you can't see the weak white stubble and if I do shave, then its perfection. My confidence, self-esteem and general psychological well-being have all blossomed thanks to this treatment. My only deep regret is that I didn't do this treatment years ago. The staff at the Cristianos have been brilliant. They are friendly, understanding and helpful. They have even spent time with me explaining the process. The environment is clean and modern and I have always felt very welcome there. The therapists are very knowledgeable on transgender issues and make their clients feel at ease. I have never felt awkward or embarrassed when I was there. The whole course of my facial hair removal has been a success and I put it all down to the professionalism of the Cristianos Clinic. Thank you! Sincerely Val Denham 19.09.08 Val can be e-mailed at starkitten@supanet.com
